When the physician is trying to decide if your child is ready to stop using their oxygen, they may order an overnight oximetry study to see if there are any desaturations requiring oxygen during sleep. This study can be done on the monitor you currently use and the memory can be downloaded in our office for the physicians.
So how do I the study?
- When you put the patient to bed the night of the study, attach the probe and oximeter as you normally would, but DO NOT put the patient on oxygen.
- IF, AND ONLY IF the patients oxygen saturation drops during the night and does not rise quickly, place the patient on oxygen and make a note of the desat. Continue to keep the patient on the monitor and oxygen until morning.
- Keep the patient on the monitor all night and as close to 8 hours as possible.
- Make sure the probe is correctly placed on the patient, and the monitor is working properly.
PLEASE NOTIFY MEDICAL RESOURCES INC. IMMEDIATELY ON THE FOLLOWING MORNING IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO PERFORM THE STUDY FOR ANY REASON.
